Relocating

Dh and I have decided that we will be moving in the summer of 2010 when my son is done with high school. A short 2 years away. But in the mean time, the chance to buy a home debt free has presented itself in less than 2 months. With the housing market not being the best here in Florida we decided to go ahead and purchase a home in our new location, rather than here. So over the 2 year time we plan to move a few things at a time and make frequent trips to our new home in the new city to acquaint ourselves.
Now here comes the hard part. We are moving to Chattanooga, TN. We know no one there. NO ONE. This is scary for us. Our inlaws will be closer but still not “come on over for dinner” close.
So, for those of you who had to pick up everything for a new place…..any advice for us? We are hoping that the 2 years in between will help us get use to it. But I’m a bit worried.

I dont have any advise really. I was just wondering, since you know no one there…how did you decide on Chattanooga TN??? We have dreamed of up and moving like that! It is just scary to actually do it.
You all are very courageous. I wish we had the guts to actually follow our dream and do it. Chuck should get his settlement in about 6 months if all goes well, financially it would be doable….
We did after a long long search in the few states that border my inlaws. We found that Chattanooga is really the best in real estate, job market and our lifestyle (it was rated the #1 kids city in the USA!). We knew we wanted to live somewhere where we had lots to do for the kids. As well as it one my inlaws favorite quick getaway spots. So it was a good choice. They wanted to buy a vacation home there someday, so we figured we would buy a large enough house so they don’t have to. The housing market and job market were huge factors mostly though.
We have to get out of Florida. Taxes, assessments and declining housing market & job market makes it impossible for single income families to make it. We could stay here and exist but we want to LIVE.
It is way scary though.

Off Topic….But I havent been able to get to mama central all day! Is it just me?
I can’t get on either…but Tennesee! Oh my! That is so cool! i wish we could move like that and I am so excited for the oppurtunity you have been given! I am sure that if you are visiting often then you will be able to get to know the town and the people. There are probably message boards just for moms in that town and you could connect that way too. When we moved to San Diego we connected with a church via the internet and met people that way, then when we visited we really met them and continued to talk with them until we moved. If we were to do it again we would do it that way and I would probably try to find other moms in the area through message boards, etc… I am so excited for you!
